Dr. Jean François Couture

University of Ottawa

Dr. Jean-François Couture (NPI) is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology (BMI), Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Couture’s lab has made important contributions to the understanding of epigenetic processes with a focus on the structure and function of proteins. His laboratory employs structural biology techniques, primarily X-ray crystallography, to elucidate the molecular mechanisms governing protein function.

Dr. Couture’s laboratory leverages the information gained from his structural studies to engineer value-added proteins for various applications such as antibody-based therapy and imaging; two approaches extensively used in the field of radiation therapy. His recent work research extends to collaborations and is supported by various funding agencies, investigating the role of lysine methyltransferases in leukemia, exploring lysine methylation in cancer and deciphering signalling in cells. He has published over 85 articles that have been cited over 4,500 times, with an H-index of 36 and an i10-index of 56.
