Dr. Aaron Goodarzi

University of Calgary

Dr. Aaron Goodarzi is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He is also the Director of the Robson DNA Science Centre and the Lead of Science Communication and Public Outreach for the University of Calgary’s Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. Dr. Goodarzi’s laboratory engages in transdisciplinary research, spanning fundamental biology, population health, behavioural science, building science, policy, and atomic physical approaches for innovative diagnostics and lab technology development.

His team investigates ionizing radiation’s impact, focusing on DNA damage repair, oxidative stress responses, the developing brain during cancer therapy, and the effects of radon exposure, collaborating across teams to understand chromatin remodelling enzyme functions and conducting wide-scale radon exposure testing and population health analyses to assess lung cancer risk factors associated with radon exposure in diverse settings and populations. Dr. Goodarzi has published 77 articles that have been cited over 8,700 times, with an H-index of 38 and an i10-index of 47.
