Dr. Mary-Ellen Harper
University of Ottawa
Dr. Mary-Ellen Harper is a University Research Chair in Mitochondrial Bioenergetics, Professor in the BMI Department, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She is also the Director of NSERC-CREATE Metabolomics Advanced Training and International Exchange (MATRIX) and Director of the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology.
Dr. Harper’s laboratory delves into mammalian bioenergetics, focusing on the metabolic pathways impacting energy transduction processes within cells, particularly within mitochondria. Her research aims to understand the control of cellular energy transduction processes, investigating the metabolic significance and regulation of mitochondrial uncoupling, which influences energy conversion efficiency and oxidative stress, with implications for a wide range of diseases.
She has studied the effects of radiation for almost 10 years in collaboration with Canadian Nuclear laboratories. Dr. Harper has published over 225 peer-reviewed papers that have been cited over 23,000 times, with an H-index of 75 and an i10-index of 202.
