Dr. Seung-Hwan Lee

University of Ottawa

Dr. Seung-Hwan Lee is a Professor in the BMI Department, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Lee’s laboratory focuses on two primary research themes involving natural killer (NK) cells: identifying novel functions and mechanisms in infection and cancer models, and leveraging these insights to develop innovative therapeutics, collaborating with clinical investigators to explore NK cell functions relevant to cancer therapy and chronic infections. His research spans understanding NK cell maturation, immunometabolism, function during viral infections, and improving NK cell functions in immunotherapies, particularly Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-NK cell therapy. Over the last several years, he has been carrying out a research program to address gaps in the scientific understanding of immune cell responses to low-dose ionizing radiation.

The research program brings together the expertise and irradiation facilities of CNL with the immunological and bioinformatic expertise of the University of Ottawa. He has published 58 articles that have been cited over 4,100 times, with an H-index of 33 and an i10-index of 48.
