Dr. Tommy Alain

University of Ottawa

Dr. Tommy Alain is a Senior Scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute and an Associate Professor in the BMI Department, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. His laboratory focuses on exploiting translation initiation factors and downstream effectors of mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) to modulate stress responses to viruses and ionizing radiation, and to augment the anti-proliferative efficacies of cancer therapeutics.

His research aims to discover and describe novel molecular mechanisms behind the control of mRNA translation and the properties of viruses to engineer improved biological and immunological approaches. His laboratory performs state-of-the-art techniques in cellular/molecular biology, oncology, and biochemistry, and has established a particular expertise on the protein synthesis machinery and the complex regulation that pertains to mRNA translation. He has published 115 articles that have been cited over 10,175 times, with an H-index of 52 and an i10-index of 93
